Jesus empowers us with the Holy Spirit

May 29, 2020On this final day before Pentecost, the Church sets before us at Mass the Gospel from John 21, where the risen Jesus appears to Peter on the shore of the Sea of Galilee and asks him three times, "Do you love me?"
Having denied Jesus three times, Peter is distressed that he failed miserably. But Jesus does not give up on Peter. In fact, he gives Peter a mission: "Feed my sheep."
Through the Holy Spirit, Peter will be empowered to fulfill his mission and to follow Jesus in giving his life completely unto death for his people.
