Although the Church building was locked for a month to encourage people to obey the Shelter in Place order and to protect the most vulnerable, Father Ryan has been bringing Jesus into the parking lot for times of Eucharistic adoration, prayer, and blessings.
One such time of was Wednesday evening, April 22nd. A parishioner from St. Joseph Parish drove into the parking lot with his wife, who looked very wearied and sick. They wanted me to bless some holy water and asked for prayers. She was battling a bacterial infection that had entered multiple interior organs. She had been in the hospital three days around Easter, but now it didn't seem to be getting better, but worse. They were in distress.
So, we decided to ask Jesus to heal her. We turned our eyes to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament there in the parking lot, and professed our faith in him as our savior and healer. We asked him to pour out the Holy Spirit through her body, to wash out every disease and infection and restore her to full health. We entrusted the completion of the healing into Jesus' hands. We concluded with an Our Father and Hail Mary. Then I blessed the water they brought.
The next day, I received this text message: "Fr. Ryan, I was not feeling well at all when we were there but I really wanted to come get some holy water. Within minutes of leaving the parking lot I started to kind of feel better. I wasn't sure - thought it might all be in my mind. I surely wanted to get better. I kept praying the Holy Spirit would come wash all the sickness out of me.
"When we got home, I blessed our entire house with the holy water. I asked him to wash out all and any diseases that may be present. I asked him to bless all who enter and leave here. Later on I went upstairs and said my prayers, again asking him to wash away all lingering disease my body was holding, then went to sleep.
"When I awoke in the morning I was completely better. I came downstairs and my husband could tell right away I was feeling better! I felt so much better I even baked for him! I believe it was because we prayed and God answered our prayers. I just wanted you to know and thank you from the bottom of my heart. Praise God!"
When asked a number of days later how she felt, she replied, "I fell wonderful - just working on getting all my strength back. Each day is better than the last, thanks be to God!!"
God is good! He loves us. He has not abandoned us in this time. And he wants a relationship with each one of us. Continue to turn to him in prayer each day! And continue to pray for the sick whom you meet in your daily life, asking Jesus to wash his Holy Spirit over them for healing.
